Did You Know: Iyanya Sold His First Car To Shoot ‘Kukere’ Official Video

Despite his emergence as the 2008 Project Fame winner, it took Iyanya close to four years to get his first hit in “Kukere”.

‘Kukere’ was the first song that began his transition from R&B — which he started with — to Pop music that later established him as an A-list artiste in the Nigerian music industry.

The Dtunes-produced song which was released in 2012, was inspired following Iyanya’s visit to his hometown in Calabar where he saw people’s affection for the Etighi dance. He decided to popularise it with “Kukere”

However, it wasn’t exactly as easy as it seems for him because he had to sell his first car to shoot the video for the song.
