History Today: 48th Anniversary Of Marvin Gaye’s 11th Studio Album “What’s Going On”
May 21 marks the 49th anniversary of Marvin Gaye‘s 11th studio album, “What’s Going On“.
The body of work which is regarded as one of the 25 greatest albums of all-time, was reportedly “told from the point of view of a Vietnam veteran returning to his home country to witness hatred, suffering and injustice.
Despite peaking at number 6 on the billboard 200 and only being certified Gold by the RIAA, “What’s Going On” produced three Hot 100 top hits (its titled track, ‘Mercy Mercy Me,’ and ‘Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler).’
