History Today: Cardi B Made History With Her Debut Single, ‘Bodak Yellow’

October 7 marks the 3rd year anniversary Cardi B made history with her major label debut song, ‘Bodak Yellow’ on Billboard Hot 100.
The song influenced by and interpolates the flow of Kodak Black’s “No Flockin,” helped Cardi become the first solo female rapper without a guest artist to reach the top since Lauryn Hill [“Doo Wop (That Thing),” 1998].
‘Bodak Yellow’ was certified nonuple platinum by RIAA, becoming the highest-certified single by a female rapper. It went on to win Single of the Year at the 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards and Favorite Song Rap at the 2018 American Music Awards.
