History Today: Davido Released R. Kelly-Assisted Remix To “IF”
June 28 marks the 3rd year anniversary Davido premiered his R. Kelly-assisted remix to “IF”.
The remix which boast of approximately 2-minute-plus additional lyrics and delivery from the self-acclaimed ‘Granddaddy of R&B,’ was one of the most talked about headlines in the African music scene for 2017.
It served as a triumph for the kind of music made in Africa for Africans; considering the low-ratings on Davido’s previous project “Son of Mercy EP” which failed to resonate with both American and African listeners — no thanks to his tweak in signature style in a bid to appeal to Americans listeners.
