How Davido Became A Double Platinum Artiste

Davido has his name engraved in the Nigerian music industry as well as in Africa already, and now, we’re already seeing great signs of him doing the same on the world music stage.
The DMW Boss and front-line artiste became a double platinum artiste with his collaboration track with Chris Brown titled “Blow My Mind.” The Shizzi-produced single which was released back in July 2019, became an instant hit upon its release and also became the most streamed song on Spotify, setting records on Apple Music and iTunes charts.
‘Blow My Mind’ — a catchy vibe music — gathered a little above 2 million views with its visual within the first 24 hours and made it to 7 million views in its first week on YouTube.
However, it is not the only project by the energetic performer that went double platinum. ‘Risky‘ which features Jamaican star, Popcaan also reached same height.
Davido was presented with a plague by Sony Music at their headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa following the feat.
The Managing Director of Sony Music Entertainment Africa, Sean Watson had nothing short of praise for the Nigerian Entertainer whose last album ‘A Good Time‘ also went platinum.
“I know we have one thing in common,” Watson began. “All of us love Africa, all of us love African music and all of us are working as hard as we can to make sure we move the needle so the whole world knows who we are, why we’re here and what we stand for.
But tonight, I’m standing next to a pioneer. A man who has gone ahead of all of us … I want to say, Thank you and I want to give you something which is yours because you earned it and what that is again is that we’ve come around full circle to say we have something else to give you tonight …
A platinum album, a double platinum single and a platinum single… This is from us, we love you .. we are proud of you and you are special to us.”
The “Omo Baba Olowo” singer released ‘A Good Time’ album last November and the project has since topped music charts across the world.
It should be recalled that his 2017 hits “IF” and “Fall” also went diamond and platinum respectively after reaching the required milestones.
Going ‘Gold’ means a record has sold over 500,000 copies while going ‘Platinum’ means selling one million units and singles selling two million units. Going ‘Diamond’ is for albums or singles that has sold over ten million units.
