There are two entertainment industry existing in-between Lagos and Ibadan. Lagos Entertainment industry is like a presidential villa that governs all state leaders in a country.
Lagos State Entertainment comprises of artistes with embodiments of talents all around other states of the country coming together where competition is certain.
There is difference between artistes who started their musical career in Lagos and the ones who started theirs in their respective states and later came to Lagos for the second-face of the career.
Artistes who leave their comfort zone to compete with Lagos artistes are suppose to be praised and cherished. This kind of artistes are the ones who have already set the pace and paid their dues distributed respectively to the deserved bodies.
Coming to Ibadan Entertainment industry, IB city has been able to produce and not limited to, artistes who are doing so well and given us World Standard music and probably gotten international recognition; Olu Maintain, Wale Waves, Artquake, Jay Ru, Skuki, just to mention a few.
Now I heard about this so called “Ibadan Industry Night” featuring artistes from Lagos; YungL, Falz and Mojeed; why would that be? Don’t we have enough talents in Ibadan.. like already? Are we promoting talents from other states or from Ibadan? This isn’t right!
Which brings me to this point — few days ago, Wale Waves who have dominated the city and beyond to Lagos to face the competition called out the Oyo state present administration lead by Governor Abiola Ajimobi whose social crew organized an ‘interactive section’ with the Governor and performances from artistes like; Reminisce, Sean Tizzle, Saheed Osupa and 9ice. Is Reminisce and Saheed Osupa from Ibadan? Well, Sean Tizzle and 9ice are natives of Ibadan and Ogbomoso respectively but this two artistes never resided in their respective city no to talk of starting their musical career there. Why would all these listed artistes be called for such event when Ib city do not lack talents itself.
From what I know, Lagos Industry Night is a weekly event which is to honour artistes who already have hits or doing well with their musical career. The word ‘Ibadan Industry Night’ is not suppose to be an event to honour artistes from other states but our very own self talents distributed evenly within the state.
As I listed earlier, we have artistes like; Olu Maintain, Wale Waves, Artquake, Jay Ru and more. Even the young/new generation artistes like;
Dresticks,
Fabulous Pizzy,
Creddy F,
BK GMB,
Sheun Natural,
Yetunde Omo Ibadan,
Elphlex and many more who can be honoured with the Industry Night.
A Yoruba adage says; Naani, naani, naani, oun ani la ‘nlani. This would be a challenge to other artistes in the city to work hard to being honoured too. Ibadan Industry Night/Interactive Section with the Governor is quite different from Nigerian Breweries/MTN event (which can feature artistes from any part of the country). We should celebrate our very own, the ones who have/still making us proud and not the ones who have no contribution to the Ibadan Entertainment Industry.
I’m using this medium to bring the organizers of the ‘Ibadan Industry Night’ and the Entertainment Bodies within the state at large to this matter. Most of you all are the cause of all this, make amends!
